Edith Franklin Wyatt was an American poet born in Wisconsin. She wrote many well-loved poems, in addition to works of fiction and non-fiction. According to Poets, she severed as a member of Poetry magazine’s first Advisory committee as well. She often spoke out against animal abuse, labor inequalities, and various political issues she felt compelled to explore.
‘Sympathy’ describes a speaker’s expanding view of the world and how a new ability to see has brought her closer to civilization.
As one within a moated tower,
I lived my life alone;
And dreamed not other granges’ dower,
Nor ways unlike mine own.
