Edward FitzGerald was an English poet who is remembered for his translation of ‘The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.’ It is one of the most commonly quoted lyric poems. His life was complicated, as was his relationship with religion, his friends, and writing. He published a few works anonymously.
‘Old Song’ by Edward FitzGerald describes a speaker depression over the long weeks of winter, and eventual joy over the coming spring.
I jump up like mad,
