Upon A Wasp Chilled With Cold

‘Upon A Wasp Chilled With Cold’ sees the narrator observing the natural world in the first half and the second half is almost in the form of a prayer as he hopes to be able to continue seeing God’s work around him and to feel God’s loving influence.

This is quite a good example of Taylor's poetry. It deals with the religious themes which were to form the basis for a great deal of his poetry and shows his reverence for the Christian God. The themes of nature are also featured regularly in his poems. The formal structure of the poem is also quite typical of his style of writing.

Huswifery

Taylor’s ‘Huswifery’ employs the metaphor of weaving to express the poet’s desire for complete devotion and service to God.

Make me, O Lord, thy Spining Wheele compleate.

Thy Holy Worde my Distaff make for mee.

Make mine Affections thy Swift Flyers neate

And make my Soule thy holy Spoole to bee.
