Lullaby

In ‘Lullaby,’ Fatimah Asghar recalls a story her sister told after their parentsโ€™ death, blending grief and fantasy to imagine their reunion beyond death.

Although it is quite a short poem, this is still quite a good example of Asghar's poetry. It features her usual experimental style, creating fantastical spaces while also dealing with some of the themes which she often wrote about, such as trauma.

When the sadness comes

My sister tells me a story -

A man buried in Pakistan

A woman buried in New York City

Asghar’s โ€˜Smell is the Last Memory to Goโ€™ delves into fading of memories, with scent as the enduring link to past moments and lost loved ones.
