There was an Indian

โ€˜There was an Indianโ€™ by J.C. Squire describes the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the new world and the reaction of one Native American man.ย

There was an Indian, who had known no change,

Who strayed content along a sunlit beach

Gathering shells. He heard a sudden strange

Commingled noise: looked up; and gasped for speech.
