Laura Gilpin was an American writer and nurse who was born in October 1950. In 1976, she was awarded the prestigious Walt Whitman Award. Today, she is remembered for her work in the medical field as well as her role as a founding member of Planetree. She passed away at the age of fifty-six in Fairhope, Alabama.
