This is my Father’s World

‘This is my Father’s World’ is a popular hymn in which the author praises God and his work which he sees in the natural world.

Babcock was a minister and skilled orator. He wrote this hymn based on his own experiences heading out to view nature and the connection that it made him feel to God. This is perhaps his best-known piece of work and is still sung today. Many of his other poems have also been set to music and sung as hymns, meaning that this poem serves as a good example of his work.

This is my Father’s world,

And to my list’ning ears

All nature sings, and round me rings

The music of the spheres.

Be Strong

‘Be Strong’ by Maltbie D. Babcock describes a certain way of living in the world in which one faces down all their troubles bravely.

Be strong!

We are not here to play, to dream, to drift;

We have hard work to do, and loads to lift;

Shun not the struggle—face it; ’tis God’s gift.
