Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was an English scientist, fiction writer, and poet. She is well-known for writing and publishing work under her own name at a time when that was incredibly uncommon for female writers. She is best known for Poems and Fancies, published in 1653.
