Riddle Poetry

This type of poetry presents a puzzling question or problem to the reader in a poetic form. The goal is to engage the reader in guessing the solution, often hidden within clever wordplay, metaphor, or allegory.

The tradition of riddle poetry stretches back to ancient times and appears in many different cultures, from the Anglo-Saxon “Exeter Book” riddles to the enigmatic Zen koans of Japan.

Riddle poetry can be playful and entertaining, but it can also serve a deeper purpose: by challenging readers to look beyond the obvious, it can provoke thought and foster a deeper understanding of language and the world.
