Fuzzy-Wuzzy

by Rudyard Kipling

‘Fuzzy-Wuzzy’ is claimed to be a humorous piece written by the famous British poet Rudyard Kipling. It speaks on the gallantry of Hadendoa warriors who are referred to by the derogatory term Fuzzy-Wuzzy.

The poem uses the rhyme scheme ABABCDCD EEFF in each stanza. That means the first eight lines follow an alternating pattern, and the last four lines form two sets of rhyming couplets. This gives the poem a steady, catchy flow that sounds natural when read aloud. It helps the speaker tell his story in a way that feels musical and strong, almost like a marching rhythm that matches the military setting of the poem.

We've fought with many men acrost the seas,

An' some of 'em was brave an' some was not:

The Paythan an' the Zulu an' Burmese;

But the Fuzzy was the finest o' the lot.

The Housewife

by Charlotte Anna Perkins Gilman

‘The Housewife’ by Charlotte Anna Perkins Gilman describes the day to day life of a housewife and the circular, unchanging elements of that life.ย

The poem uses the rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EEFF. Each stanza has four lines, and every pair of lines within a stanza rhymes alternately or in couplets. The first stanza follows the ABAB pattern, where the first and third lines rhyme, and the second and fourth do too. Then it shifts into pairs of rhyming lines for the rest of the poem. This pattern creates a clear and regular sound that matches the speakerโ€™s steady and repetitive routine.

Here is the House to hold me โ€” cradle of all the race;

Here is my lord and my love, here are my children dear โ€”

Here is the House enclosing, the dear-loved dwelling place;

Why should I ever weary for aught that I find not here?
